Aluminum extrusion

In addition to rolling, the extrusion of aluminium is one of the most common moulding techniques used in the shaping of aluminium. The aluminium alloys used fall into the category of “Wrought alloys”. By squeezing a hot block of aluminium through a die, any shape can be made that one could wish. Both “hollow” and “solid” profiles are possible. Using this method, one can extrude profiles with a metric weight of over sixty kilograms. Adding functionality is almost unlimited with extrusion; knowledge and experience play an important role in this.

The advantages of aluminium extrusion are:

  • The range of product shapes is almost unlimited.
  • Relatively few components are used, which reduces costs and accelerates the production process.
  • Process assurance and reproducibility.
  • High productivity.
  • Individual customer solutions.
  • Multiple profiles can be extruded in a single pressing operation.
  • Even thin wall thicknesses are possible which can lower the price/kg.
  • Functionality features can be built into the profile (hooks, eyes, grooves...)
  • Additional mechanical properties are possible thanks to age hardening.
  • Aluminum has a very good weight to strength ratio.
  • Using aluminum extrusion, aluminium can be provided precisely at the place where extra strength is needed.
  • Decorative surface treatment is possible.
  • Aluminium profiles have good mechanical workability.
